Boretti BBQ Briquette Starter – Quickly and Environmentally Friendly Light Your Barbecue

The Boretti BBQ Briquette Starter is the ideal tool for every barbecue enthusiast who wants to light their charcoal barbecue or kamado quickly and efficiently. This Dutch brand with its distinctive Italian design, known from The Great Garden Makeover, combines functionality with sleek aesthetics. With this briquette starter, you'll be ready to grill within 15 minutes, without chemical fire-lighters or gels that affect the flavour of your dishes. Perfect for the conscious grillmaster who chooses pure barbecue enjoyment.

This professional briquette starter is made from high-quality stainless steel that withstands extreme temperatures and lasts for years. With its compact dimensions of 25 cm length, 21 cm width and 27 cm height, this starter fits perfectly into any barbecue setup. The thoughtfully designed construction with perforated walls ensures optimal air circulation, allowing your briquettes or charcoal to reach temperature incredibly quickly. The robust design with a weight of 1.6 kg guarantees stability during ignition, whilst the ergonomic handle enables safe operation.

Features & Benefits of the Briquette Starter

High-Quality Stainless Steel for Years of Enjoyment

The Boretti Briquette Starter is entirely made from top-quality stainless steel. This material guarantees a long lifespan, even with intensive use and exposure to high temperatures well above 500 degrees Celsius. The stainless steel is resistant to corrosion and weather conditions, allowing you to continue using this product season after season. The black finish gives the starter a sleek, professional appearance that perfectly complements Boretti's Italian design character.

Perforated Walls for Optimal Air Supply

The secret of this briquette starter lies in the strategically placed perforations in the cylinder wall. These openings create a chimney effect where hot air is drawn upward and fresh oxygen-rich air is drawn in from below. This creates intense combustion that allows your briquettes to fully ignite within 10 to 15 minutes. No more endless waiting before you can start grilling – the distinctive white ash layer that indicates your coals are ready appears in record time.

Safe Handle with Heat-Resistant Design

The ergonomically shaped handle is designed to stay cool, even when the briquettes in the starter are burning at full force. Thanks to the thoughtful distance between the handle and glowing coals, you can safely lift the starter and distribute the glowing briquettes over your barbecue. The firmly attached handle offers optimal grip and control, so you can work without risk of burns or spilled coals. This makes the Boretti Briquette Starter much safer than improvised solutions using flue pipes or other constructions.

Compact Dimensions for Versatile Use

With its dimensions of 25 x 21 x 27 cm, this briquette starter is compact enough to fit in virtually any barbecue, from small table models to large kamados and kettle grills. The starter offers sufficient capacity to light enough briquettes for a complete grilling session without being excessively large or cumbersome. After use, the product is easy to store in your garden shed, garage or barbecue cabinet. The relatively light weight of 1.6 kg makes transport and handling child's play.

Applications

Lighting Charcoal Barbecues

The primary application of the Boretti Briquette Starter is of course lighting your charcoal barbecue. Place the starter on the charcoal grate of your barbecue, fill it with briquettes or charcoal, and light from below with one or two fire-lighters. Thanks to the chimney effect, the coals burn incredibly quickly. Once the top briquettes are covered with white ash, carefully tip the starter and spread the glowing coals over the grilling surface. Your barbecue is now ready to use, without any chemical aftertaste.

Perfect for Kamado and Kettle Grills

Owners of a kamado barbecue know that lighting these ceramic grills can sometimes be difficult due to limited air supply at the beginning. With the Boretti Briquette Starter, you solve this problem: light your briquettes outside the kamado in the starter, and only add them to the kamado once they are fully ignited. This saves time and prevents you from having to work with the lid open for too long, which causes heat loss. The same applies to kettle grills such as classic Weber models, where this method ensures a quick and efficient start.

Ideal for Heating Extra Coals During Grilling

During a long grilling session with indirect grilling or low-and-slow cooking, you regularly need fresh coals to maintain the temperature. Instead of throwing cold briquettes directly onto your burning coals – which lowers the temperature – you can use the Boretti Briquette Starter to pre-heat fresh briquettes. Light them in the starter while you're grilling, and add them only when they're fully ignited. This keeps your temperature constant and prevents smoke from partially burnt coals.

Assembly & Use

The Boretti Briquette Starter is delivered fully assembled and ready to use immediately. For the first use, we recommend briefly heating the starter to burn off any manufacturing residue – place a few briquettes in the starter and let them fully ignite. This ensures a clean start for your first real grilling session. Using it is simple: place the starter on a heat-resistant surface (such as the charcoal grate of your barbecue or on tiles), fill with the desired amount of briquettes or charcoal, and place one or two natural fire-lighters at the bottom or in the middle between the coals.

Light the fire-lighters and let nature do its work. Thanks to the chimney effect, the flames will rise and ignite all the briquettes. After approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on the type of briquettes and weather conditions, the coals are ready for use. You'll recognise this by the greyish-white ash layer that forms over the briquettes. Wear barbecue gloves and lift the starter by the handle. Carefully tip it over your barbecue and let the glowing coals fall in the desired spot. Distribute them if needed with a coal shovel to create direct or indirect grilling zones.

After use, let the starter cool completely before storing it. Any ash residue can be easily removed by turning the starter upside down and tapping it out. The stainless steel material requires minimal maintenance: occasionally wiping it with a damp cloth is sufficient. Aggressive cleaning products are not necessary and can damage the finish. Thanks to the stainless steel material, you can store the starter both indoors and outdoors, although a dry storage location will extend its lifespan. The compact format means you can easily store the briquette starter amongst your other barbecue accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many briquettes fit in this starter?

The Boretti Briquette Starter has sufficient capacity for approximately 1.5 to 2 kilograms of briquettes, which equates to around 20-30 pieces, depending on the brand and size. This is just enough for a complete grilling session on an average barbecue. For larger barbecues, you could light two batches or consider a larger starter.

Do I still need fire-lighters?

Yes, you still need one or two natural fire-lighters to get the process started. The great advantage is that you no longer need liquid lighting gels that emit chemical fumes and can affect the taste of your food. With fire-lighters based on wood fibre or wool, you get clean, odourless combustion.

Can I also use the starter for regular charcoal?

Absolutely! The Boretti Briquette Starter works excellently with both briquettes and natural charcoal. Charcoal generally lights up slightly faster than briquettes, so you might be able to reduce your ignition time further. The only difference is that charcoal burns through faster, so bear this in mind for longer grilling sessions.

Is the handle heat-resistant enough?

The handle is designed to remain at a safe distance from the heat. Nevertheless, we recommend always wearing barbecue gloves or heat-resistant gloves when handling the filled starter. The briquettes reach temperatures of 600-700 degrees Celsius, and safety comes first. With the right protection, you can handle the starter without any problems.

How do I best maintain the briquette starter?

The stainless steel material requires minimal maintenance. After cooling
