Why a ceramic kamado BBQ?
A kamado is more than a barbecue — it's a versatile ceramic cooking appliance that combines grilling, smoking, baking and roasting in one device. Thanks to its thick cordierite ceramic walls, the kamado retains heat exceptionally well. This has multiple advantages:
- Enormous temperature range — from 50 °C for slow smoking to over 350 °C for pizza baking and searing meat
- Stable temperature — once at temperature, the kamado holds it for hours without adjustment
- Fuel efficient — excellent heat retention means low charcoal consumption, even during long smoking sessions
- Authentic flavour — charcoal and optional wood chips give your meat, fish and vegetables unparalleled aroma
- Suitable for all seasons — the insulated ceramics work equally well in cold and warm weather
- Long lifespan — quality kamados last for decades; the Keij Legend series even comes with lifetime warranty on the ceramic
What can you cook on a kamado BBQ?
The versatility of a kamado is its greatest strength. On one device you can achieve the following cooking techniques:
Direct grilling
At direct heat (150–350 °C) grill steaks, chicken breasts, pork chops, fish and vegetables directly above the charcoal. High temperatures create perfect grill marks and a roasted exterior like you'd find in a restaurant.
Indirect smoking — low and slow
With a plate setter in the kamado you create an oven environment of 100–130 °C. Perfect for pulled pork (10–14 hours), brisket, spare ribs and smoked salmon. Add wood chips for the perfect smoke ring and flavour.
Pizza baking
With a ceramic pizza stone and temperatures above 300 °C you bake a Neapolitan pizza in 60 to 90 seconds — with a crispy base and perfectly melted mozzarella.
Roasting and spit-roasting
With a rotisserie accessory you slowly rotate whole chickens, lamb legs or stuffed roasts. Even rotation ensures a juicy interior and crispy exterior — without having to hover over it constantly.
Baking like a proper oven
At temperatures between 180 and 220 °C the kamado acts like a convection oven. Bake bread in it, prepare desserts or make a casserole in a cast-iron dish.

Frequently asked questions
What is a kamado BBQ?
A kamado is a ceramic cooking appliance fired by charcoal with Japanese origins. Thanks to its thick ceramic walls, the kamado retains heat exceptionally well, allowing you to grill, smoke, bake and roast at temperatures from 50 to over 350 °C — all on one device.
Which barbecue size should I choose?
For 1 to 3 people or a small terrace, the 15-inch compact is the right size. For an average family of 4 to 6 people, the 21-inch large is the most popular. Do you regularly cook for more than 6 people or are you a serious BBQ enthusiast? Choose the 23-inch XL.
What's the difference between a kamado and a regular barbecue?
A kamado has thick ceramic walls that retain heat exceptionally well. This makes the kamado more efficient in fuel consumption and more accurate in temperature control. Additionally, you can not only grill on a kamado but also smoke, bake and roast.
Can I use a kamado in winter?
Yes, a kamado works year-round. The thick ceramic walls provide excellent insulation, so the kamado reaches temperature quickly and maintains it stably even at low outdoor temperatures. Cover the kamado with a protective cover when not in use.
How long does it take for a kamado to reach temperature?
On average 15 to 20 minutes for direct grilling temperatures. For pizza baking at 300+ °C allow 30 to 40 minutes so the ceramic is fully warmed through. For low-and-slow cooking allow 30 minutes for a stable temperature of 100–130 °C.
What charcoal should I use in a kamado?
Always use high-quality lump charcoal, preferably made from hardwoods such as oak, beech or acacia. Avoid charcoal with chemical lighter aids. Add wood chips or chunks for extra flavour during slow smoking sessions.
Is free delivery available for kamado BBQs?
Kamado BBQs are delivered free on orders of €1,000 and above. For orders below this amount, a delivery charge applies. Check the product page for details about assembly and delivery.
