The Bastard kamados: compare Urban, VX, Core and Pro
The Bastard is a Dutch brand that focuses entirely on the kamado: the egg-shaped barbecue in which you grill, smoke, bake and braise over charcoal. Alongside the kamados themselves, The Bastard makes a wide selection of accessories, from cast-iron grates and pans to pizza stones, smoking wood and its own charcoal. On this page you compare The Bastard kamados and their accessories, with the current price at the shop.
The Bastard models on this site
All The Bastard barbecues on this site are kamados. They differ in size, series and version:
- Compact: the smallest size, with a Ø 33 cm grate, as The Bastard Compact and Urban Compact, plus the Core Compact
- Medium: the Medium Solo with a Ø 42 cm grate, the Urban Medium Complete, the Core Medium and the VX Medium Complete
- Large: with a Ø 49 cm grate in four series, Urban, VX, Core and Pro, each as Solo or Complete
- XL: the Urban XL Complete, with a Ø 59 cm grate
- Accessories: grates, pans, pizza stones, covers, tools, charcoal and smoking wood
The Core models appear in the comparison in Graphite; the Pro Large Complete is available in colours including Alpine Green and Desert Sand.
Which The Bastard suits you?
Start with the size. A Compact fits on a small patio and is enough if you mostly cook for one or two people. A Medium is a logical size for a family. If you often cook for guests or want to grill and cook indirectly side by side, a Large gives you more room on the grate. The XL is meant for people who regularly cook for large groups.
Next, you choose between Solo and Complete. A Solo is the kamado without the extras that come with a Complete version; with a Complete you have a set to get started straight away. Exactly what is in the box differs per model, so check the product page. Between the Urban, VX, Core and Pro series the difference lies mainly in build and finish, so compare the specifications of each model side by side.
