Garden lighting by Garden Lights
With the right garden lighting — also known as garden lamps or outdoor lights — you can enjoy your garden long after sunset. On Boender Outdoor you can compare the complete collection of Garden Lights — a Dutch brand that has specialised in low-voltage garden lighting for over 30 years. The 12V system is safe, energy-efficient and straightforward to install yourself.
Why choose 12V garden lighting?
Garden Lights uses a 12V low-voltage system. This has several advantages over 230V outdoor lighting:
- Safe — 12V is safe to install in the garden, even when wet
- Energy-efficient — modern LED fittings use just 2–10 watts per spotlight
- Simple to install — everything connects to one transformer via a flex cable
- Modular — connect up to 8 fittings per flex cable run
- Expandable — add extra fittings later without reinstalling
Types of garden lighting
The Garden Lights range includes a wide variety of fittings for every spot in the garden:
Garden Lights Spotlights
Spotlights are ideal for highlighting trees, shrubs or architectural features. Thanks to the focused beam, you light up exactly what you want and create beautiful shadows and depth effects in the garden.
Uplights
Uplights are recessed into the ground and shine upwards. Perfect for larger trees or shrubs you want to light from below for a dramatic night-time effect.
Decklights
Decklights are recessed into decking, steps or walls. They provide subtle mood lighting and safety — ideal along paths and patios.
Wall lighting
Garden Lights wall lights give a warm glow along facades, fences or pergolas. They combine function and decoration in one compact fitting.
Standalone lighting
Lamp posts and standalone fittings mark paths, driveways or boundaries in a stylish way. Rustic and modern variants suit every garden style.
Mood lighting
From decorative light columns to atmospheric garden torches — mood lighting creates a cosy atmosphere on warm summer evenings.
Smart garden lighting
With the Garden Lights Smart Zigbee range, you can control the lighting easily via an app or voice assistant. Dimming, timer functions and automatic on at sunset are standard features.

Installing Garden Lights: how it works
The Garden Lights system is designed for DIY enthusiasts. The flex cable connects the transformer to all fittings in the garden. Thanks to the push-on connector technology, you never need to cut the cable — you simply clamp the fitting connector onto the cable. This lets you expand the system whenever you want:
- Choose a transformer with enough wattage for all connected fittings
- Connect a maximum of 8 fittings per cable run
- Bury the flex cable 10 cm deep in the ground for a neat finish
- Use a cable connector to divide extra runs
IP rating: how water-resistant is garden lighting?
All Garden Lights fittings have an IP rating that indicates water-tightness. Most models have IP44 (splash-proof) or IP65 (jet-proof), making them suitable for use in the garden, even in rain and frost.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a difference between garden lighting, garden lamps and outdoor lights?
No, these are different names for the same thing: lighting specifically designed for outdoor use in the garden. We mainly use the term 'garden lighting', but the spots, uplights, decklights and wall lights you'll find here are just as often called garden lamps or outdoor lights.
What voltage does Garden Lights garden lighting use?
Garden Lights operates on 12 volt low voltage. This is safe for use in the garden, even in damp conditions, and far more energy-efficient than 230V outdoor lighting.
How do I install Garden Lights garden lighting myself?
The system consists of a transformer, a flex cable and the fittings. Thanks to the push-on connector, you simply click each fitting onto the cable without cutting it. This way you can install a complete lighting system yourself in an afternoon.
What does IP44 or IP65 mean on garden lighting?
The IP rating indicates water-tightness. IP44 is splash-proof (suitable for rain), IP65 is jet-proof (resistant to direct water jets). Both are perfectly suitable for outdoor use in a Dutch garden.
How many fittings can I connect to one flex cable?
A maximum of 8 fittings can be connected per cable run. With cable connectors you can connect multiple runs to one transformer, as long as the total wattage stays within the transformer's capacity.
Is Garden Lights garden lighting dimmable?
Part of the Garden Lights collection is dimmable. The Smart Zigbee range is fully dimmable and controllable via an app or voice assistant such as Alexa or Google Home. Check the dimming options for each product.
Are Garden Lights fittings suitable for winter?
Yes, the fittings are designed for permanent outdoor use and resistant to frost, rain and UV radiation. Most models are made from stainless steel, aluminium or durable plastic.
What transformer do I need for Garden Lights?
Add up the total wattage of all fittings you want to connect and choose a transformer with at least 20% extra capacity. Garden Lights offers transformers from 30W to 150W for both small and larger installations.
