Fire tables: compare prices

A fire table is an outdoor table with a gas burner in the middle. You put your glass and plate on the table top and sit around real flames, without smoke, ash or sparks. On this page you compare fire tables from Cosi and Happy Cocooning, together with the accessories that go with them: glass sets, lids and cover plates, lava stones, ceramic logs, built-in burners and covers. For each product you see the specifications and the current price at the shop.

How does a fire table work?

The table top holds a burner that you light with a knob and turn up or down. Lava stones or ceramic logs sit on top of the burner, spreading the flame nicely and holding the heat. The gas bottle usually sits inside the table itself or next to it in a cover, with a hose and a pressure regulator to the burner. A glass surround (glass set) around the burner keeps the flame steady when it is windy. When you are done, you put a lid or cover plate on top: you have an ordinary table again and the burner stays dry.

Lounge height, dining table or bar table

• Low fire tables (around 35 to 50 cm high) go with a lounge set. Examples are the Cosi Cosiflow and Cosiloft and the Happy Cocooning Estate, Lagune and Riviera.
• Fire tables at dining height, such as the Cosiloft Relax, are used with a dining set: food and warmth at the same table.
• A bar table with a burner, such as the Happy Cocooning bar table (110 cm high), goes with high stools.

Measure beforehand how much space there is around the table. Between the edge of the table and your sofa or chairs you want enough room to walk, and your knees need to fit under the top if you sit at a taller table.

Shape and size

A square or round fire table fits in the middle of a corner sofa or between four armchairs. A rectangular table, such as the Cosiloft 120 or the Cosiflow Straight of 120 x 80 cm, works well in front of a long sofa. If you are short on space, look at compact models such as the Cosi Cosibrixx 60, the Cosicube of 70 x 70 cm or the Happy Cocooning Lagune Round 60. For a large group there are longer models, such as the Cosi Cosibridge 140 and the Happy Cocooning Riviera 140.

Materials

The frame is often aluminium, as with the Cosiloft and Cosibrixx. For the table top you will see teak, a stone look, composite and travertine. Teak gives a warm wooden look and turns silver-grey over time if left untreated. A stone look or composite top needs little maintenance.

Output and warmth

The burner output is listed in the specifications, usually in watts. For most Cosi fire tables in this comparison it is 9,000 watts; for Happy Cocooning it ranges from 8,500 watts (including the Lagune, Horizon and Riviera) to 16,500 watts (the Estate Square 88). Think of a fire table mainly as atmosphere with warmth on the side: you feel the heat best when you sit close. If you want to properly heat a large patio, combine the fire table with a patio heater.

Accessories that make the difference

• Glass set or glass surround: protects the flame from the wind. Pay attention to the size and shape (round, square, rectangular) of your burner.
• Lid or cover plate: closes off the burner when not in use, so the fire table becomes an ordinary table.
• Lava stones and ceramic logs: for the look of the flame.
• Cover: for the whole table in winter or when it is not used for a long time.
• Built-in burner: if you want to make your own fire table or convert a table, you can fit a separate burner from Cosi or Happy Cocooning.

Safe use

• Only use a gas fire table outdoors or in an open, well-ventilated place, never indoors or under a closed canopy.
• Keep a distance from parasol fabric, cushions and plants, and never leave the flame burning unattended.
• Check the hose and pressure regulator regularly and turn off the gas bottle after use.
