Ceramica Solo Medium

Ceramica solo medium – Authentic kamado grilling for 8 people

The Boretti Ceramica solo medium is a versatile kamado barbecue that is perfectly suited for preparing delicious dishes for groups of up to 8 people. This ceramic gem combines Boretti's distinctive Italian design with the ancient kamado tradition, and has become a familiar sight in the programme De Grote Tuinverbouwing. Whether you're a seasoned grill enthusiast or just starting out with outdoor cooking, this grey kamado offers everything you need for culinary masterpieces in your own garden.

With its robust ceramic construction and high-quality cast iron grates, the Ceramica solo medium offers exceptional heat retention and temperature control. The built-in thermometer gives you constant insight into the internal temperature, whilst the practical ash collection box makes cleaning up afterwards a breeze. Weighing 55 kilograms and with compact dimensions of 63 cm length, 45 cm width and 63.3 cm height, this kamado is sturdy enough for professional results, yet portable enough for flexible placement in your garden.

Features & benefits of the solo medium

Ceramic construction for optimal heat distribution

The ceramic material of the Ceramica solo medium is the beating heart of this kamado. Ceramic has unique insulating properties that retain heat for long periods with minimal charcoal consumption. Moreover, the thick ceramic wall ensures even heat distribution around your dishes, resulting in perfect cooking results without dry edges or undercooked centres. This property makes the kamado superior to traditional metal barbecues.

Cast iron grates for restaurant quality

The Boretti Ceramica solo medium is equipped with cast iron grates that are renowned for their superior heat conduction and heat retention. These grates create the characteristic grill marks you know from steakhouses and ensure a perfect Maillard reaction on your meat, fish and vegetables. Cast iron also builds up a natural non-stick coating with regular use, which makes grilling results progressively better the more often you use the kamado.

Versatile temperature range from low to high

Thanks to the clever air flow system with adjustable air vents at the bottom and top, you can precisely control the temperature in the Ceramica solo medium between approximately 80 and 350 degrees Celsius. This makes the kamado suitable for both low-and-slow preparations such as pulled pork and ribs as well as high-heat searing of steaks and burgers. The built-in thermometer at the top always shows the current temperature, so you're never caught off guard.

Practical ash collection box for easy maintenance

One of the user-friendly features of this Boretti kamado is the integrated ash collection box at the bottom. After your grilling session, you can simply slide out the ash drawer and remove the ash without getting your hands dirty. This thoughtful design makes the kamado not only more hygienic to use, but also provides better air flow during grilling because ash cannot block the ventilation openings.

Applications

Direct grilling at high temperature

For quick dishes such as steaks, burgers, sausages and grilled vegetables, direct grilling is the ideal method. Place the cast iron grates directly above the burning charcoal and bring the temperature to 200-250 degrees for perfectly caramelised meat with flavourful grill marks. The compact grilling space of the Ceramica solo medium is ideal for dishes that need to cook quickly, with the ceramic walls retaining the heat for consistent results.

Indirect grilling and smoking

By using a heat deflector or convEGGtor (available separately), you can transform the Ceramica solo medium into a perfect oven for indirect grilling. This method is excellent for larger pieces of meat such as chicken, pork loin or whole salmon, as well as for pizzas and bread. The moist heat in the closed kamado prevents drying out, whilst the smoke development from the charcoal adds a subtle smoky flavour to your dishes.

Low-and-slow barbecue

For true BBQ enthusiasts, the Ceramica solo medium is perfect for hours-long low-and-slow sessions. Set the temperature to 90-120 degrees and prepare pulled pork, brisket or ribs that are so tender the meat falls off the bone. Thanks to the excellent heat retention of the ceramic walls, you barely need to add charcoal, even for sessions of 8 hours or longer.

Assembly & use

The Boretti Ceramica solo medium is supplied without a stand, giving you the freedom to choose how you position the kamado. You can opt for a separately available stand with wheels for maximum flexibility, or place the kamado in a built-in outdoor kitchen or on a heat-resistant work surface. When positioning, ensure that the kamado stands on a stable, level surface and that there is sufficient clear space around it for ventilation and safe use.

For first use, it is important to season the kamado gradually. Start with a small amount of charcoal and let the temperature rise slowly to approximately 150 degrees, for about an hour. This process removes manufacturing residues and allows the ceramic to adjust to the heat. The cast iron grates should also be seasoned before first use by coating them with high-temperature oil and warming them up, after which they form a protective layer. After a few grilling sessions, the grates develop a natural patina that gets better over time.

Regular maintenance of your Ceramica solo medium is simple but essential for long-lasting enjoyment. After each use, remove the ash from the ash collection box and brush the grates clean with a grill brush whilst they are still warm. You can wipe the ceramic exterior with a damp cloth. With intensive use, it is advisable to carry out a thorough clean several times a year, also removing ceramic residues from the inside. For storage outside the season, we recommend a suitable cover (available separately from Boender Outdoor) to protect the kamado from the elements, although the ceramic itself is frost-resistant.

Frequently asked questions

How much charcoal do I need for a grilling session?

Thanks to the excellent insulation of the ceramic, the Ceramica solo medium consumes significantly less charcoal than traditional barbecues. For a standard grilling session of 1-2 hours, approximately 1-1.5 kilograms of charcoal is sufficient. For low-and-slow preparations of 8 hours or longer, you only need 2-3 kilograms, depending on the desired temperature and weather conditions.

Can I leave the kamado outside all year round?

Yes, the ceramic construction is frost-resistant and can remain outside all year round. However, we recommend using a suitable cover to protect metal parts such as bands, hinges and grates against rust. The thermometer and air regulators will also remain in better condition with good protection against rain and snow.

Is this kamado suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Whilst kamado grilling has a learning curve, the Ceramica solo medium is user-friendly thanks to the built-in thermometer and intuitive ventilation system. Start with simple direct grilling dishes to master temperature control, then experiment with indirect preparations. At Boender Outdoor, we are happy to offer advice and tips for optimal use.

What is the difference between this solo medium and other kamados?

The Boretti Ceramica solo medium stands out for its distinctive Italian design, high-quality cast iron grates and excellent value for money. With a grilling surface suitable for 8 people, this kamado is in the popular mid-size segment, ideal for most families and small groups. The grey colour gives the kamado a modern, neutral appearance that suits any garden.

Are accessories available for this kamado?

Yes, there is a wide range of accessories available to make your Ceramica solo medium even more versatile. Think of a heat deflector for indirect grilling, a pizza stone, grill plates, a chicken roaster stand and of course a matching stand with wheels.
