A teak lounge set is the premium choice for those seeking warmth, durability and character. Teak wood is the most prized timber for outdoor use: it contains natural oils that protect against moisture, insects and rot. At Boender Outdoor you'll find teak lounge sets such as corner lounge sets, chair-bench combinations and low platform sets.
Why choose a teak lounge set?
Teak wood (Tectona grandis) has been the premier material for outdoor use for centuries. From shipbuilding to garden furniture — teak withstands any climate. Unlike aluminium or rope, teak offers an unmatched warmth and natural quality that synthetic materials cannot match.
- Extremely durable — lasts 25+ years with normal use
- Naturally oiled: protects itself against moisture and rot
- Ages beautifully to a stunning silver-grey patina
- FSC-certified — sustainable and responsible forestry
- Improves with age — each set is unique thanks to natural wood grain
- Minimal maintenance — can stand outside untreated
Teak quality grades
Not all teak is equal. There are three quality grades:
- Grade A: hardwood from the heart of the trunk. Uniform colour, fine grain, highest oil content. The best choice for outdoors — this is what we select at Boender Outdoor.
- Grade B: wood with slightly more colour variation and broader grain. Good for outdoors but less uniform.
- Grade C: sapwood from the outer rings. Lighter in colour and less oily — less suitable for intensive outdoor use.
Teak vs. acacia — which wood type should you choose?
Acacia is an affordable alternative to teak. Both wood types are suitable for outdoors, but teak wins on all counts for durability:
- Lifespan: teak 25+ years, acacia 10-15 years
- Maintenance: teak can stand outside untreated; acacia requires annual oiling
- Oil content: teak is naturally richer in oils that provide protection
- Price: teak is approximately 2× more expensive than acacia — you're paying for longevity
Teak maintenance — gold or grey?
With a teak lounge set you have a choice: retain the warm honey colour or let the wood turn grey:
- Keep the honey colour: apply teak oil or teak sealer each spring. This nourishes the wood and retains the golden-brown colour.
- Silver-grey patina: leave the wood untreated — after 6-12 months it develops a beautiful grey patina. The strength remains identical.
- Re-sanding: want to return to the original colour after greying? Sand lightly (grit 180) and oil — the wood will look like new again.
Teak lounge sets by style
Teak lounge sets are available in various configurations:
- Corner lounge sets — solid teak L-shaped with thick cushions
- Chair-bench sets — teak bench with matching chairs
- Low platform sets — wide teak platform with thick cushions, Bali atmosphere
Combine your teak lounge set with cushions in beige, white or charcoal for the best colour contrast with warm wood.
Combining with accessories
A teak lounge set pairs beautifully with other natural materials. Add a teak lounge table or side table. A cantilever parasol in an earthy tone provides shade. Place an outdoor rug in jute or cotton under the set. Protect the set with a lounge set cover for winter.

Frequently asked questions
What makes teak so suitable for outdoors?
Teak naturally contains a high content of oils and rubber that protect the wood against moisture, insects and rot. It is one of the few wood types that can stand outdoors untreated for years without deteriorating. Grade A teak typically lasts 25+ years.
Do I need to treat a teak lounge set?
That's not necessary. Untreated teak develops a beautiful silver-grey patina and remains equally strong. Want to keep the warm honey colour? Then apply teak oil each spring. Both options are fine — it's purely an aesthetic choice.
What's the difference between teak Grade A, B and C?
Grade A is hardwood from the heart of the trunk: uniform colour, fine grain and the highest oil content. Grade B has more colour variation. Grade C is sapwood from the outer rings — lighter and less durable. We select exclusively Grade A.
Can a teak lounge set stay outside all year?
Yes, teak is completely frost-resistant and water-resistant. The wood dries quickly after rain and does not crack due to frost. The frame doesn't need to be brought inside in winter. Do store the cushions away or choose all-weather cushions.
Is a teak lounge set more expensive than aluminium?
Yes, teak is typically 2-3× more expensive than a comparable aluminium set. The premium reflects superior durability (25+ years), unique character and the value of natural hardwood. Teak also becomes more beautiful over time.
How do I remove green algae from teak?
Use a specialist teak cleaner or a mixture of water and oxalic acid. Let it soak briefly and scrub with a soft brush. Rinse with water. Sand lightly afterwards if you want to restore the original colour.
What does FSC-certified teak mean?
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification guarantees that the teak comes from sustainably managed forests. No more timber is felled than the forest can regrow. At Boender Outdoor we select exclusively FSC-certified teak.
Which cushions suit a teak lounge set?
Beige, cream and sand colours look best with the warm teak colour. Charcoal provides a modern contrast. Always choose outdoor cushions in Olefin or Sunbrella fabric with a thickness of at least 8 cm for optimal seating comfort.
