Which sprinkler?

• Oscillating sprinkler: covers a rectangle, ideal for a rectangular lawn.

Drip irrigation and automatic watering

A drip system or drip hose delivers water at the roots of borders, hedges, vegetables and pots. With a water timer on the tap you decide when and for how long the water runs; the With timer or controller filter shows them. If you connect a system to the mains, fit a non-return valve or vacuum breaker and, if in doubt, check what your connection requires. Store timers and sprinklers frost-free in winter. When to water?

Water early in the morning or in the evening if you can: less evaporates than in the middle of the day. A lawn benefits more from a good soak now and then than from a little water every day, because the roots then grow deeper. Plants in pots dry out faster and need water more often in summer. With a water timer you set that rhythm once. Some controllers can be operated with an app or linked to a rain sensor.
