Compare Klasika greenhouses: polycarbonate polytunnels

Klasika makes garden greenhouses in polycarbonate on a galvanised steel frame. They come in many lengths, from a compact greenhouse of 2 by 2 metres to a long polytunnel of 12 metres. On this page you compare Klasika greenhouses and roof vents with the current price at the retailer.

The Klasika series

• Drop: polytunnel 2.5 metres wide and up to 12 metres long.
• Tube and Arch: wide polytunnels of 3 metres, also as Extra and Premium.
• Slim: a narrower greenhouse 2 metres wide, often with an automatic roof vent.
• Bernard and House: greenhouses 2.35 metres wide.
• Baltic LT and Standard: polytunnels 3 and 2.5 metres wide.

Extra, Premium and roof vents

Some series carry Extra or Premium in the name. According to the titles this refers to the thickness of the polycarbonate, such as 4 mm for Extra and 6 mm for Premium. Thicker polycarbonate insulates better. A number of greenhouses have automatic roof vents; the title says so. Separate roof vents such as Drop, Slim and Easy are listed under greenhouse accessories.

Setting up and anchoring

A long polytunnel catches a lot of wind. Place the greenhouse on a level surface and anchor it as the Klasika manual describes. Check with your local authority beforehand whether a greenhouse of this size is permit-free, especially for the larger models. Think about the sun as well: a greenhouse with its long side facing south catches the most light, and a spot out of the wind makes anchoring easier.

Which Klasika suits you?

Got a narrow strip in the garden? Look at the Slim, 2 metres wide. If you want a bed on both sides with a path in between, the 3 metre wide Tube, Arch and Baltic LT give more room. The Drop and Standard sit in between at 2.5 metres. As the series grow longer in steps of 1 or 2 metres, you choose the length that suits your spot and your plans. Allow space to open the door and to keep the greenhouse clean.

Maintenance

Clean polycarbonate with water and a soft brush or sponge, without abrasive cleaners. That way as much light as possible passes through the sheets. After a storm, check that the sheets and frame are still firmly in place, and keep the roof vents closed in winter during frost and wind.
