Shade sails in three shapes

A Nesling shade sail comes as a triangle, square or rectangle. A triangle is easy to hang from three points and gives a playful look, especially when you hang two sails at an angle over each other. A square or rectangular sail covers a larger area, for example above a table. Sizes range from 3.6 m to 5 m per side, in colours such as black, anthracite, grey, sand, off-white, green, lime green, ice blue, navy blue and terra.

Coolfit and Dreamsail

For most Coolfit sails, the material according to the specifications is HDPE: a knitted fabric that lets air through, so it stays cooler underneath. Rain also passes through. The Dreamsail sails are made of polyester. Check the material in the specifications of each sail, because that decides whether the sail also keeps rain out. Retractable shade sails

A retractable shade sail hangs from wires and slides open and shut, so you decide when you want shade. Nesling offers them in widths of 2 m, 2.9 m and 3.7 m and lengths up to 5 m. You tension the wires between a wall and posts, or within a pergola. Such a sail works well above a patio that you sometimes want in the sun and sometimes in the shade.

Fixings

To hang a shade sail tightly and safely you need solid fixing points. Nesling offers stainless steel fixing kits for a triangular sail or a square and rectangular sail, separate turnbuckles, carabiners, chains, expansion anchors, bolts and screws, and a post with a flexible eye. You use a turnbuckle to put the sail under tension. Hang the sail at a slight angle so rainwater runs off.

Hanging the sail

Hang a shade sail from at least three solid points and do not put all the corners at the same height. By hanging one or two corners lower, rainwater runs off and the sail stays nice and taut. Check the tension again after a few weeks, because a new sail can stretch a little. Take the sail down during storms and in winter.
