What to consider when choosing a shade sail
- Shape and size: measure the space to be covered and choose a triangle, square or rectangle that extends well beyond it — allow for some sag in the middle.
- Fixing: attach the cloth to sturdy points such as a wall, post or sturdy tree. Pull the cloth taut to prevent water pooling.
- Material: waterproof cloths (such as Prosail) keep out rain, whilst water-permeable cloths (such as Coolfit) provide extra cooling through air circulation.
- Colour: dark colours (anthracite, black) provide more privacy and absorb heat, whilst light colours (sand, cream white) reflect more sunlight instead.

Which shade sail shape works best for my terrace?
A rectangular or square shade sail is ideal for covering a seating area or dining table, whilst a triangular cloth is often combined with multiple cloths for a dynamic effect or to cover irregular spaces.
Is a shade sail waterproof?
That depends on the material. A Coolfit shade sail is water-permeable and provides extra ventilation and cooling, whilst a Prosail shade sail is waterproof and provides dry shade even in rain.
How do I tension a shade sail properly?
Attach the cloth to sturdy points such as a wall, post or tree and pull it taut using the supplied tension cords or springs. A properly tensioned cloth prevents water pooling and flapping in the wind.
What is the difference between a shade sail and an accordion shade cloth?
A shade sail is fixed and stays in place, whilst an accordion shade cloth moves along a rail and can be easily slid open and closed to adjust the shade to suit the sun's position.
Can I leave a shade sail up all year round?
During normal use you can, but during storms or heavy snow, we recommend temporarily loosening or storing the cloth (or accordion shade cloth) to prevent damage.
