What to consider when choosing a shade sail

• Shape and size: measure the space to be covered and choose a triangle, square or rectangle that extends well beyond it — allow for some sag in the middle.
• Fixing: attach the cloth to sturdy points such as a wall, post or sturdy tree. Pull the cloth taut to prevent water pooling.
• Material: waterproof cloths (such as Prosail) keep out rain, whilst water-permeable cloths (such as Coolfit) provide extra cooling through air circulation.
• Colour: dark colours (anthracite, black) provide more privacy and absorb heat, whilst light colours (sand, cream white) reflect more sunlight instead.
