Which type of patio heater is the most economical?
Electric infrared heaters are the most economical to use: they heat people and objects directly within their range without heating the air. Gas heaters provide more heat over a larger area but consume more energy. A fire table or fire basket is the least energy-efficient but provides the most atmosphere.
How far does a patio heater reach?
An electric infrared heater of 1,500-2,000W heats an area of approximately 8-12 m². Gas heaters of 11-15 kW reach up to approximately 15-20 m². Keep in mind that wind causes much heat loss outdoors. Screens or a canopy will significantly improve efficiency.
Is an electric patio heater safe to use outdoors?
Yes, provided the heater has an IP rating suitable for outdoor use (minimum IP24 for splash water resistance). Always mount wall models at the correct height (minimum 1.8m above head height) and use an RCD (residual current device).
How long can I use a fire table?
A fire table with a standard 5kg gas bottle will run on the highest setting for approximately 3-5 hours. On a lower flame setting, you'll get 8-12 hours. Bioethanol fire tables burn for approximately 2-4 hours per refill. Wood-burning fire baskets depend on the amount of wood.
Can I use a gas heater on a covered terrace?
Gas heaters may only be used on well-ventilated covered terraces — never in an enclosed space due to CO2 emissions. Electric heaters are safer for (semi-)covered terraces because they produce no combustion gases.
