Compare Philips Hue outdoor lighting: smart garden spots and lights
Philips Hue is the smart lighting system from Signify, the company formerly known as Philips Lighting. On this page you compare the Philips Hue outdoor line: lights for the facade, the path and the garden that you control with the Hue app. For each product you see the current price at the shop.
What does Philips Hue offer?
- Wall lights: including Resonate, Nightingale, Appear, Econic and Daylo, often in an up and down version that washes the wall with light in both directions.
- Spots and floodlights: the Lily garden spots (also as a base kit of two to five spots), the Lily XL and floodlights such as Discover, Amarant and Welcome.
- Pedestal lights: Calla, Impress, Econic and Nyro, in tall and low versions for paths and borders.
- Ambient lighting: Festavia string lights with globe bulbs, LED strips such as Neon, Flux and Omniglow, and the portable Go table lamp.
Mains power or low voltage
Most Hue outdoor lights run on mains power (230 V) and are wired in permanently. There is also a low-voltage system, recognisable by LowVolt in the name. These lights connect to an outdoor socket through a power supply. With a base kit such as the Lily kits, you can add extra spots later. To compare low voltage with a system without smart features, also take a look at Garden Lights.
Smart control
All Hue outdoor lights are smart. Many models give white and coloured light, so you set the colour and brightness per lamp or let lights switch on and off at fixed times. With the Hue outdoor motion sensor, the lights come on as soon as someone walks up the path. The Welcome floodlight gives warm white light only. Compare other brands in smart garden lighting.
What to look for
Check the IP rating: IP44 is splash-proof and suits a facade under an overhang, IP65 copes better with rain and water jets, which is useful in an open spot in the garden. Also check the fitting: wall lights such as Fylx and Ulio use a bulb in a GU10 or E27 fitting, so check on the product page whether the bulb is included.
How to compare Philips Hue
With the filters you choose by type (wall light, spike light, pedestal light, floodlight, string light, LED strip), power source, IP rating, colour and material. Sort by price to put the most affordable models at the top. You always order from the shop itself. More brands can be found under garden lighting.
Frequently asked questions
Do you need a Hue Bridge for outdoor lighting?
For the full set of features, such as schedules and pairing the outdoor motion sensor, you use a Hue Bridge. Check on the product page which connection the light supports.
What does LowVolt mean at Philips Hue?
LowVolt is the Hue low-voltage system. The lights run through a power supply that plugs into an outdoor socket, so you can place them in the garden without a permanent 230 V connection.
Can I buy single Lily spots?
Yes, besides the base kits there are single Lily spots. An extension spot connects to the power supply of a base kit, so check on the product page whether a power supply is included.
Which IP rating should I choose for a Hue outdoor light?
For a facade under an overhang, IP44 is usually enough. If the light stands in the open garden or in a spot that catches a lot of rain, choose IP65.
