Doppler parasols on this site

  • Doppler Active: a rectangular parasol measuring 180 x 120 cm with a tilt function, designed for a balcony or small terrace.
  • Doppler Expert Auto Tilt: a rectangular parasol measuring roughly 300 x 200 cm that you tilt, so the shade moves with the sun.

Doppler's range at the retailer changes over time. Browse all balcony parasols and pole parasols for more choice.

Choosing a parasol for the balcony

Space on a balcony is usually limited, so a rectangular parasol often works better than a round one: it gives shade along the full length of the balcony without sticking out over the edge. Measure the width and depth of your balcony and allow for the railing and the wall of the building. A tilt function is handy if the sun moves during the day. Also check whether your VvE (owners' association) or landlord has rules for parasols on the balcony.

The right base

A parasol needs a base that is heavy enough. The larger the canopy, the heavier the base should be. On a balcony, a base for paving slabs or a fillable base is handy, because you add the weight on the spot. Make sure the pole diameter of the parasol fits the base. See the parasol bases for the options.

Maintenance

Close the parasol in strong wind and let the canopy dry before storing it, otherwise mould can develop. A parasol cover keeps dirt and moisture out when the parasol is stored for a long time. Clean the canopy with lukewarm water and a soft brush.

Canopy size and shade

How much shade a parasol gives depends on the canopy size and the position of the sun. A 180 x 120 cm canopy gives shade for a small table with two chairs. With a 300 x 200 cm canopy you have shade for a table with four to six chairs. When the sun is low, the shade falls further from the pole, which is why a tilt function is so handy. Also check the UV protection and the quality of the canopy on the product page.

Which Doppler parasol suits a balcony?

The Doppler Active, measuring 180 x 120 cm, is designed for a balcony or small terrace. The Expert Auto Tilt is larger, at roughly 300 x 200 cm, and suits a more spacious balcony or terrace better.

Do I need a separate parasol base?

Usually, yes. Check the product page to see whether a base is included. Choose a base that is heavy enough for the canopy size and that fits the pole diameter of the parasol.
