Parasol bases — the foundation for every parasol
A good parasol base is just as important as the parasol itself. Without the right base, your straight parasol or cantilever parasol won't be stable and could blow over in a gust of wind. At Boender Outdoor you'll find parasol bases in all weights, sizes and styles — from compact concrete bases to heavy cross bases and ground-mounted bases. Browse our complete parasol range.
Which parasol base is right for my parasol?
The choice of parasol base depends on two factors: the type of parasol and the parasol size.
- Straight parasol up to Ø 250 cm — concrete or granite base weighing 25–40 kg
- Straight parasol Ø 270–300 cm — heavier base weighing 40–60 kg
- Straight parasol Ø 350+ cm — base weighing 60–80 kg or ground-mounted base
- Cantilever parasol 250–270 cm — cross base with 60–80 kg tiles
- Cantilever parasol 300–350 cm — cross base with 90–120 kg tiles
- Cantilever parasol 400 cm — cross base with 120–160 kg or ground-mounted base
Types of parasol bases
- Concrete base / granite base — the classic: heavy, stable and compact. Ideal for straight parasols
- Cross base — cross-shaped metal frame with concrete tiles. Standard for most cantilever parasols
- Ground-mounted base — permanently fixed in the ground, maximum stability
- Mobile base — base on wheels, combining mobility and stability
- Fillable base — can be filled with water or sand, ideal for balconies
Check the mast diameter
Always check the mast diameter of your parasol before buying a base. Standard straight parasol masts are Ø 38, 48 or 58 mm. Cantilever parasols often have a larger square or round mast. The base must fit exactly to the mast diameter — use an adapter or reduction ring if necessary.
Parasol base by colour and material
Parasol bases are available in:
- Concrete natural/grey — the standard option, sturdy and affordable
- Concrete black/anthracite — matches anthracite and black parasols
- Polished granite — luxury look for premium terraces
- Stainless steel / aluminium — modern and rust-proof

Frequently asked questions
How heavy should my parasol base be?
Allow 10–15 kg per metre of parasol diameter for straight parasols. A parasol of Ø 300 cm needs a base weighing at least 30–45 kg. Cantilever parasols of 300 cm require 90–120 kg (cross base with tiles).
Does every base fit every parasol?
No, check the mast diameter. Standard sizes are Ø 38, 48 and 58 mm. Use an adapter ring if your mast is a non-standard size.
What's better: a concrete base or a cross base?
A concrete base is compact and ideal for straight parasols. A cross base is suitable for heavy cantilever parasols and can be weighted with tiles as needed.
Can I place a parasol base on grass?
A concrete base sits stably on grass. With a cross base, you can use support plates to prevent subsidence. A ground-mounted base is the best option on grass.
What does a parasol base cost?
Compact concrete bases start from around €30. Granite bases cost €60–€120. Cross bases range from €80 to €150. Ground-mounted bases cost €100–€250, depending on the type.
Do I need extra tiles for a cross base?
For most cantilever parasols, cross base tiles are available separately. Check at purchase whether tiles are included or need to be ordered separately.
Which base is the most stable?
A ground-mounted parasol base is the most stable — it's permanently fixed in the ground. A cross base with sufficient tiles comes second. A concrete base is the most stable for straight parasols.
Can I leave my base outside?
Concrete and granite bases can stay outside all year round. Aluminium cross bases too. With steel cross bases, rust can occur; use a protective coating or store them in a dry place.
