Compare tents: dome tent, tunnel tent and inflatable
A good tent is the basis of every camping holiday. In this category you compare dome tents, tunnel tents, inflatable tents and tents you can pitch quickly, from a light one-person trekking tent to a family tent with standing height for eight people. For each product you see the number of people, the material and the current price at the shop. All camping gear together can be found under camping.
Which type of tent?
- Dome tent: crossed poles, compact and quick to pitch. Handy for a weekend, a festival or as a trekking tent.
- Tunnel tent: more standing height and living space, often with a covered area in front of the sleeping compartments. Suitable for a longer holiday.
- Inflatable tent: air beams instead of poles, which you inflate with a pump.
- Quick-pitch tent: tents with a pre-attached frame, such as the FastPitch tents from Coleman.
Number of people and space
The number of people in the product name is the number of sleeping places. If you want to keep luggage inside or prefer more room, choose a tent for one person more. Also look at the standing height and whether there is a porch or covered area for cooking and sitting. The filter for number of people quickly shows which tents fit. On a rainy day you will spend more time inside, so extra living space is worth considering for a longer stay.
Hydrostatic head, material and weight
The hydrostatic head shows how waterproof the tent fabric is; a higher value keeps rain out for longer. Polyester is light and dries quickly, while polycotton (technical cotton) breathes better and stays cooler in the sun, but is heavier. For treks, weight and packed size count, as with the Vango Nevis and the Robens Chaser. For a family holiday by car, space and comfort are more important. Whatever you choose, let the tent dry properly before you store it, so the fabric stays in good condition.
Brands
Here you will find tents from Coleman (including the Darwin, Cortes and Octagon), Vango, Outwell, Nordisk (Asgard and Reisa), Robens and more. You can compare a sleeping bag and mat under sleeping bags and mats.
Frequently asked questions
How big should my tent be?
Take the number of people who will sleep in it and add one place if you want to keep luggage in the tent. For a longer holiday, extra living space or a covered porch is pleasant.
What does the hydrostatic head of a tent mean?
The hydrostatic head shows how much water pressure the tent fabric can take before water gets through. The higher the value in millimetres, the better the tent handles rain.
Is an inflatable tent sturdy enough?
Yes, as long as you guy it out properly. The air beams are sturdy and flex with a gust of wind instead of breaking. Do bring a pump and check the air pressure after pitching.
