Covering a veranda? What are the options

Do you dream of an atmospheric spot in the garden where you can enjoy the outdoors every season? Then you'll soon be looking at a veranda, canopy or pergola. But what exactly is the difference? And how do you furnish such a space cosily with garden furniture such as a lounge set or garden set?

At Boender Outdoor Garden Furniture we don't sell verandas or canopies, but we're happy to help you furnish your covered outdoor space perfectly with the most beautiful furniture!

What is a veranda?

A veranda is an extension to your home, usually at the back of the house. It's a covered terrace, often with a roof made of glass or polycarbonate. Sometimes verandas are also fitted with sliding glass panels or side walls, so you're sheltered from wind and rain. Ideal for anyone who wants to sit outside all year round.

Tip: A veranda attached to your house is perfect to combine with a comfortable lounge set, so you can step straight from your living room into the cosy outdoor space.

What is a canopy, what is a pergola?

A canopy is a freestanding or detached structure, placed somewhere in the garden. It can be a robust wooden structure with a fixed roof, or a modern variant made of aluminium with slats.

A pergola, on the other hand, is a lighter, open structure. Often without a fixed roof, but with slats or fabric for some shade. A pergola is mainly intended as a decorative element or as a basis for climbing plants such as grapes or roses.

Fun fact: Under a pergola or open canopy, a garden set really comes into its own. This way you create a cosy dining area in the midst of greenery.

Does a canopy add value?

Absolutely! A canopy or veranda not only adds comfort to your garden, but can also increase the value of your home. You're effectively extending your living space outdoors, and that's something many people are looking for.

In addition, it offers practical advantages:

  • Your garden furniture stays beautiful longer thanks to protection from rain and sun.
  • You can sit outside earlier in spring and later in autumn.
  • It's the perfect place to gather with friends and family.

With a luxury lounge set or stylish garden set you'll complete your canopy or veranda. At Boender Outdoor Garden Furniture we're happy to help you choose!

Do you need permission for a veranda?

In many cases you can place a veranda or canopy without permission, especially if you stay within the rules of the zoning plan. Think for example of:

  • Not higher than 3 metres.
  • Rear or side of the home.
  • Within a certain number of square metres.

But watch out: the rules differ per municipality. So it's always wise to check with your local council to see if you need permission.

Our tip: bring your veranda or canopy to life with garden furniture

Whether you want to create a cosy lounge corner or a practical outdoor dining area, with the right garden furniture you'll really get the most out of your canopy or veranda.
