Compare Esschert Design fire pits and fire bowls
Esschert Design is a Dutch brand for garden products, with a wide variety of fire baskets and fire bowls. On this page you compare the fire baskets, fire bowls and accessories from Esschert Design with the key specifications and the current price at the shop. Boender Outdoor does not sell anything itself: you always order from the shop, with its delivery and terms.
Esschert Design fire baskets
There are square and round fire baskets, fire buckets, and fire balls and globes with laser-cut patterns such as stripes, dots and speckles. Other models have a pattern of deer or of birds on a branch (Birds on Twig), or the shape of a globe, a half sphere or a half ellipse. You usually choose between black steel and rust-brown Corten steel. There are also wood pellet fire baskets from the Fancy Flames range, in black or silver, which you use as the manual describes.
Fire bowls
Among the fire bowls you will find steel bowls in various sizes, such as the 60 cm Classic and a black 80 cm bowl, cast iron fire bowls, fire bowls with a log store, a bowl on legs, a slanted bowl and a square bowl, and fire bowls with a concrete look (MGO). Some models double as a barbecue, such as the cast iron barbecue and fire bowl and the fire bowl with tripod and grill grate. A reversible model works as a fire bowl or as a fire basket.
Accessories
For cooking there are separate barbecue grates in sizes S, M, L and XL, a Japanese-style grate and a cast iron grate with griddle plate. You will also find base plates for round and square fire baskets, a tripod to place over the fire bowl and a folding spark guard. Check the title to see whether a grate fits the size of your bowl.
What to look for when choosing
First choose between a fire basket, which is taller and shows the fire all around, and a fire bowl, which is lower and more open. Then look at the material: black steel, Corten steel with a brown rust layer that is part of the look, or heavy cast iron. With laser-cut patterns, the light of the fire shines through the wall. If you want to cook over the fire, use the With grill grate filter or choose a separate grate in the right size.
Using it safely
Only use a fire basket or fire bowl outdoors in the open air, not under a canopy, parasol or pergola, and never indoors or in a tent. Keep a generous distance from your house, trees, hedges and fences, and follow the manual. Place it on paving, gravel or a base plate, not on wooden decking or unprotected grass. Never leave the fire unattended, keep water or sand close by and only throw away the ash once it has cooled completely. Local rules on fires apply, and in the Netherlands a stookalert from the RIVM may be in force.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a fire basket and a fire bowl?
A fire basket is taller and has a wall all around, often with openings or patterns the light shines through. A fire bowl is lower and more open, so a group can sit around the fire. Esschert Design makes both, and also a reversible model.
Why does a Corten steel fire basket rust?
Corten steel develops a brown rust layer that is part of the look. This layer can rub off at first, so do not place it on a light surface you want to keep clean, and follow the manual.
Can I barbecue on an Esschert Design fire bowl?
Yes, with models that have a grill grate, such as the cast iron barbecue and fire bowl. For other bowls there are separate barbecue grates in sizes S to XL; the title shows which size fits your bowl.
Does Boender Outdoor sell Esschert Design?
No. Boender Outdoor is a comparison site. You see the products and the current price here, and you order from the shop.
