Compare Ooni pizza ovens and accessories
Ooni is a Scottish brand known for pizza ovens for the home. The company started in Edinburgh and made its name with compact ovens that heat up quickly and bake a pizza in a few minutes. On this page you compare Ooni pizza ovens and accessories with the current price at the shop.
Which Ooni ovens will you find here?
- Koda: gas pizza ovens. The Koda is the compact gas oven, the Koda 16 fits pizzas up to about 40 cm, and the Koda 2 and Koda 2 Max are the newer gas ovens, with the Koda 2 Max being the largest.
- Karu: multi-fuel pizza ovens for wood and charcoal, such as the Karu 12, the Karu 2 and the Karu 2 Pro. With a separate gas burner they also run on gas.
Which Ooni should you choose?
- Small patio or often on the move: a 12 inch oven, such as the Koda or the Karu 12, is light and compact.
- Baking for a larger group: the Koda 16 and the Koda 2 Max give you more room for bigger pizzas and for turning them.
- Firing with wood: the Karu 2 or the Karu 2 Pro, for those who want to build the fire themselves.
What else do you need?
Besides the oven, plan for a pizza peel to slide the pizza in and out, a turning peel to turn it and an infrared thermometer to measure the stone. A cover protects the oven if it stays outside, and a table gives it a fixed place at working height. For a gas oven you also need a gas cylinder and a matching regulator.
Ooni accessories
Ooni also makes the accessories for its ovens. Under pizza oven accessories you will find pizza peels in aluminium, perforated steel and bamboo, a turning peel, infrared thermometers, covers and carry bags for each model, a pizza stone for the Karu 12 and tables in different sizes, including a folding table. For covers and stones, check carefully which model they are made for.
Gas or wood with Ooni
If you mainly want to bake pizza quickly and easily, a Koda is the obvious choice: connect it to a gas cylinder, light it and bake once it has preheated. The Karu is for those who actually enjoy firing with wood or charcoal. With the Koda 2 Max, pay attention to the version: there is a 30 mbar version and a 37 mbar version. In the Netherlands 30 mbar is usual, in Belgium often 37 mbar.
Safe use
Ooni ovens are made for outdoor use. Place the oven on a stable, heat-resistant surface, keep it away from anything that can catch fire and never use it indoors or in an enclosed space. With a gas oven, check the connection for leaks with soapy water and let the oven cool down completely before you put the cover on.
Comparing Ooni with other brands
Under pizza ovens you compare Ooni with the gas ovens from Witt, whose Rotante models have a rotating stone. Pizza stones for the barbecue are also available from Weber and Napoleon.
Frequently asked questions
Where does Ooni come from?
Ooni is a Scottish brand. The company started in Edinburgh and makes pizza ovens for the home and the accessories that go with them.
What is the difference between the Ooni Koda and the Ooni Karu?
The Koda runs on gas: connect it to a cylinder, light it and bake once it has preheated. The Karu is a multi-fuel oven that you fire with wood or charcoal, and on gas with a separate burner. So the Koda is the easiest, while the Karu gives you the experience of a real fire.
Can I use an Ooni Karu on gas?
Yes, with a gas burner that Ooni offers separately for the Karu models. Make sure you buy the burner that matches your Karu and the gas pressure in your country, and follow the manual.
Which Ooni suits 40 cm pizzas?
Choose a 16 inch oven, such as the Ooni Koda 16: it fits pizzas up to about 40 cm. The Koda 2 Max is even larger. A 12 inch oven bakes pizzas up to about 30 cm.
