Camping gas: cartridges, cylinders and regulators
A camping stove, camping barbecue or gas lantern only works with the right gas and the right connection. In this category you compare gas cartridges, gas cylinders, regulators, gas hoses, burners and adapters, with their specifications and the current price at the shop. Camping stoves and camping barbecues are in camp kitchen.
Which connection does your appliance have?
- Screw-thread valve (EN 417): a threaded cartridge that you can unscrew before it is empty. Common on compact stoves and lanterns.
- Campingaz Easy Clic (CV): cartridges that click onto Campingaz appliances.
- Pierceable cartridge: a cartridge that the appliance pierces; it stays on until it is empty.
- Gas cylinder: for larger appliances and longer use, with a regulator and a gas hose.
Only use gas that suits your appliance: the product page shows which type of cartridge or connection is needed.
Butane or propane?
Butane vaporises poorly at temperatures around freezing, so an appliance burns less well then. A mix with propane or isobutane works better in the cold. The gas type filter shows which gas is in a cartridge or cylinder.
Using gas safely
Only use gas appliances outdoors or in a well-ventilated space, never in a closed tent: carbon monoxide can build up there. Connect a regulator and gas hose as described in the manual, check the hose for cracks and leaks, and replace it if it is hard or damaged. Store cartridges and cylinders upright, cool and out of the sun, and close the cylinder when you have finished.

Frequently asked questions
Which gas cartridge fits my stove?
That depends on the connection of the appliance: a screw-thread valve (EN 417), a Campingaz Easy Clic connection or a pierceable cartridge. The manual or the product page shows which cartridge fits. Do not use a cartridge that is not intended for your appliance.
Do I need a regulator?
With a gas cylinder you usually need a regulator and a gas hose to connect a stove or barbecue. Check which working pressure your appliance needs and which connection the cylinder has. Cartridges with their own valve connect directly to the appliance.
Can I use a gas appliance in the tent?
No. A gas appliance uses oxygen and can produce carbon monoxide, a gas you cannot smell. So always cook and heat outdoors or under an open canopy with plenty of ventilation, and never in a closed tent.
