Buy deck lights — Garden Lights recessed lighting for decking

Deck lights: subtle ambiance and safety in your decking and patio

Deck lights are recessed fittings that are installed flush into decking, steps, garden walls or paving. They provide a sleek, minimalist appearance on your patio during the day — and create a warm, inviting light along the edges of your patio, pathway or steps in the evening. At the same time, they enhance safety: steps and level changes become clearly visible without glare.

Garden Lights deck lights operate on safe 12V and connect to the familiar flex cable system. Installing them yourself in wooden decking, composite, concrete or stone is straightforward — and the result looks professional.

Where do you use deck lights? Five perfect applications

  • Wooden and composite decking — integrate deck lights into the boards for a warm, atmospherically lit patio edge
  • Steps — light each tread for safety at dusk and a stylish appearance
  • Low garden walls and retaining walls — integrate lighting into concrete or brick retaining walls for an architectural effect
  • Paving and block paving — integrate deck lights into concrete paving or block paving along a pathway or drive
  • Swimming pool and pond edges — give the edge of a swimming pool or water feature a warm glow

Sleek design that blends completely into the structure

The great advantage of deck lights is their invisibility during the day. The fitting is designed so it sits flush with the decking, step or stone. During the day you only see a small grille or glass surface — fitting with both modern and traditional patios. In the evening, they transform your patio into an atmospherically lit outdoor room.

Garden Lights deck lights are available in stainless steel, black and anthracite. They are suitable for foot traffic and fitted with a sturdy glass or grille cover that can handle foot traffic and patio chairs without any problems. The IP67 protection rating ensures that rainwater or cleaning water from a garden hose is not an issue.

Warm light for the perfect patio atmosphere

Garden Lights deck lights deliver warm white light (2700–3000K) that perfectly suits the atmosphere of a comfortable patio. The soft light along the edges of your decking or steps is never glaring, but provides just the right amount of light contrast to safely highlight level changes whilst enhancing the atmosphere on your patio.

Installing deck lights in wood, composite and stone

Installing deck lights requires a few simple steps:

  1. Drill a hole to size in the decking board, step or stone — the diameter is stated in the product specifications
  2. Run the flex cable through or under the structure (via a slot or cable tray)
  3. Click the pass-through connector onto the flex cable — no cutting required
  4. Place the fitting in the hole and secure it with the supplied fixing housing
  5. Connect the cable to the transformer and test the installation

In composite decking use a hole saw. In concrete or stone use a diamond-tipped drill bit. Always ensure there is sufficient space for the flex cable behind or under the structure. If in doubt about wall thickness: use an installation ring for extra rigidity.

Combine deck lights for a complete lighting plan

Deck lights are most effective as part of a larger lighting design. Combine them with garden lighting stands along the pathway, wall lights on the pergola or fence and spotlights on trees and borders. Want to control all your lighting via the app? Discover the Garden Lights Smart Zigbee series.

Frequently asked questions

In which materials can I install deck lights?

Garden Lights deck lights can be installed in wood, composite, concrete, stone and ceramic tiles. Use a hole saw for composite and wood, and a diamond-tipped drill bit for concrete or stone. Ensure there is sufficient space for the flex cable behind or under the structure.

Are deck lights capable of withstanding foot traffic?

Yes, Garden Lights deck lights are suitable for foot traffic. They are fitted with a sturdy glass or grille cover that can handle foot traffic. They are designed for use in pathways and on steps. Consult the product specifications for the exact load capacity per model.

What light colour is best for deck lights on a patio?

Warm white (2700–3000K) creates a cosy, inviting atmosphere on a patio or decking. The soft light is not glaring and creates just the right contrast to safely mark the edge of the decking or a step.

How many deck lights do I need per metre of decking?

As a rule of thumb, allow 1 deck light per 50–80 cm for an even light distribution along an edge. For purely decorative accents, the spacing can be larger. On steps we recommend at least 1 deck light per step, or 2 for wider steps.

Can I also build deck lights into a stone or concrete tile?

Yes, as long as the stone is thick enough for a suitable hole. Use a diamond-tipped drill bit and check that the fitting can be fully secured. For thin tiles, use an installation ring for extra rigidity and a neat finish.

Are deck lights suitable for use beside a swimming pool or pond?

Yes. The IP67 protection rating of Garden Lights deck lights makes them completely waterproof to 1 metre submersion. They are excellent for use along swimming pools, ponds and areas where water collects during rain.
