Buy standing garden lighting — Garden Lights lamp posts & poles

Standing garden lighting: stylish poles that enhance your garden day and night

Standing garden lighting — also known as garden poles, lamp posts or garden sockets — are the classic choice for illuminating paths, driveways and garden boundaries. They mark routes through your garden in a stylish and functional way and provide safety at dusk. The Garden Lights collection combines timeless design with energy-efficient 12V LED technology and the simple flex cable system — no electrician needed, no trenches to dig, just install it yourself.

Five perfect applications for standing garden lighting

  • Garden paths and walkways — mark paths through the garden with regularly spaced poles for safety and orientation
  • Driveways — illuminate the drive to your home for a stylish welcome and functional evening safety
  • Garden boundaries and borders — use low garden sockets as accent lighting along borders or lawn edges
  • Entrances and gates — flank a garden gate or entrance with two poles for a symmetrical and welcoming effect
  • Terraces and seating areas — standing fixtures around a terrace or lounge set as atmospheric accents that also provide functional light

From compact socket to classic lamp post: choose the right height

Garden Lights offers standing fixtures in various heights and styles. The choice depends on the application and your personal preference:

  • Low sockets (20–40 cm) — ideal as subtle boundary marking along borders or as accent lighting on decking and steps
  • Medium-height poles (40–60 cm) — the most popular choice for path lighting in gardens and at driveways
  • Tall lamp posts (60–90 cm) — perfect for driveways, larger gardens and entrances where greater light coverage is desired

All fixtures are made from stainless steel, aluminium or durable technopolymer — materials that maintain their attractive appearance for years outdoors without painting, rusting or weathering. Available in black, anthracite and silver-grey.

What light effect does standing garden lighting provide?

Standing fixtures distribute their light all around or downwards, depending on the model. All-around light creates a warm, atmospheric appearance that makes the pole visible as a light point in the garden. Downward-directed light illuminates the path directly beneath the pole without glare and creates a more modern, functional appearance. Choose the type based on the atmosphere you want to achieve.

Placing standing poles along a path: practical tips

The ideal placement depends on the width of the path and desired light density:

  • Place poles on one side of the path for a calm, one-sided marking
  • Use poles on both sides for a symmetrical effect — ideal for entrances and wide driveways
  • A spacing of 1.5 to 3 metres creates a calm, cohesive line of light
  • For narrow garden paths, 1 pole per 2–2.5 metres is sufficient for adequate lighting

Installation: install yourself in an afternoon

Models with a ground spike are simply pushed into the ground at the desired location — no digging required. Models with a fixed base require a small shallow hole or can be placed on a tile base for use on the terrace. Lay the flex cable 10 cm deep in the ground and connect it via the push-through connector to each fixture. No cable cutting, no soldering — just connect to the transformer and you're done.

Combine standing lighting for a complete lighting plan

Standing poles work best in combination with other Garden Lights fixtures. Add deck lights to your decking terrace, hang wall lighting on the fence or pergola and direct spotlights at trees and ornamental shrubs. This creates a layered lighting plan with different light layers and atmospheric depth. Want to control everything via your phone or have it automatically turn on at sunset? Frequently asked questions

How do I install a Garden Lights lamp post in the garden?

Models with a ground spike are simply pushed into the ground at the desired location. Lay the flex cable in a 10 cm deep trench towards the pole and click the push-through connector onto the cable — no cutting required. Connect the cable to the transformer and the lamp works immediately.

How far apart should I space standing garden lights along a path?

A spacing of 1.5 to 2.5 metres creates a calm, cohesive line of light along a garden path. For a wide driveway or long approach, a spacing of 3–4 metres can also work well. Also consider the light angle of the fixture.

What height is best for path lighting?

For garden paths, poles of 40–60 cm are ideal: they illuminate the path directly without being dazzling to passers-by. For driveways or larger gardens, a height of 60–90 cm provides greater light coverage.

Are Garden Lights poles resistant to storms and frost?

Yes, the poles are solidly constructed and designed for permanent outdoor use in the Dutch climate, including storms and frost. In severe storms, we recommend pushing the ground spike deeper or anchoring the model with a concrete base, especially for taller specimens.

Can I place a standing garden light on a terrace without digging?

Yes, some Garden Lights poles are available with or suitable for a tile base or weight block, so they can stand freely on a terrace or balcony. Check per model whether this option is available.

How many standing poles can I connect to one transformer?

This depends on the wattage per pole. Add up the total wattage and choose a transformer with at least 20% reserve. For example, a 60W transformer can handle 10–15 poles of 4W. Garden Lights offers transformers from 24W to 150W.
