A lounge set is a significant purchase, so you want to enjoy it for a long time. But how long does a lounge set actually last? How long does a lounge set last?
The honest answer: it depends. A lounge set consists of various components, each of which wears in its own way. The frame can still be fine while the cushions are already flat and faded. Frame: aluminium or wood
The frame is the backbone of your lounge set and usually lasts the longest. Aluminium doesn't rust, but the powder coating is the protective layer that keeps it looking good. Woven parts: rope and wicker
Rope is a weather-resistant cord wrapped around the armrests and backrests. It mainly wears from dirt that settles between the fibres and from green growth in places that stay wet for long periods. Keep it fresh with lukewarm water and a soft brush; see maintaining rope garden furniture.
Wicker is plastic weaving strand wrapped around a frame. It is weather-resistant and low-maintenance, but strands can come loose or break if you put a lot of force on them, for example by sitting on an armrest or dragging the set across the ground. Cushions: the first to wear
In practice, the cushions are usually the first component you replace. The foam softens after lots of sitting, and the polyester covers can fade in strong sun. - Location: a set under a pergola or in partial shade faces less sun and rain than a set in the middle of an open terrace.

5 mistakes that shorten the life of your lounge set
Leaving cushions outside

A harsh jet or a scouring pad can damage the powder coating, fray rope and force wicker loose. A soapy solution and a soft brush are enough.

Under a cover that doesn't breathe, condensation gets trapped. That's bad for wood, rope and cushions. Choose a breathable cover and make sure air can circulate underneath.
Sitting on the armrests
Armrests, especially woven ones, aren't designed to be sat on. The woven parts can stretch or break and connections can come loose.
Forgetting the wood
