Centre pole parasol
The centre pole parasol is the classic parasol that everyone knows. You recognise this by the straight pole that stands in the middle of the canopy.

With a centre pole parasol you need a sturdy parasol base with a tube in which the pole is placed. Check the specifications: not all centre pole parasols can be tilted or adjusted in height. Some models have a removable pole, which is convenient for storage.
Cantilever parasol
A cantilever parasol has a pole on the side, which makes the canopy 'float' as it were. This creates a spacious effect and more flexibility in positioning your shade.
