A cantilever parasol gives shade without a pole in the middle. That makes it ideal above a lounge set or a table without a parasol hole. But which one should you choose? The range runs from compact models of 250x250 cm to parasols of 350x350 cm with a mast as thick as a post.
In this overview we list the best cantilever parasols of 2026 by situation: the best all-rounder, the best with base included, the airiest, one with LED lighting, the best for a small garden, a long table, a large terrace and a spot with lots of wind. All specifications come from the manufacturer. You can see current prices on the cards.
In short: for most gardens, the Platinum Challenger T² premium 300x300 is the best choice: 360 degree rotating and tiltable sideways and backwards. If you want the base included, choose the Madison Monaco Flex III. For a long table there is the Hawaii Emperor 300x400, and for lots of wind the Hawaii Big Pole II. With most models, budget for a separate base.

How we chose
We don't test parasols ourselves. We have, however, put the cantilever parasols from Platinum, Garden Impressions and Madison side by side and looked at which model has the right size and features for each situation. Every specification in this article comes from the manufacturer's product information. We paid attention to:
What we looked at
- 360 degree rotation, so you can follow the sun without moving the base
- Tilting: backwards only, or sideways and backwards
- The canopy: weight, material and UV protection according to the manufacturer
- Whether the base is included, and if not, which weight the manufacturer recommends

Best all-rounder: Platinum Challenger T² premium 300x300
According to Platinum, the Challenger T² is the flagship of the range. The difference with the Challenger T¹ lies in the tilt function: the T² tilts not only backwards but also sideways. Together with the 360 degree rotating base, you can follow the sun all day without moving the parasol. The premium version has a 240 g Spuncrylic canopy with up to 98% UV protection and a water- and dirt-repellent coating. Canopy tensioners keep the fabric taut.

Challenger T² premium cantilever parasol 300x300 cm
Why: 300x300 cm fits above most lounge sets and tables for four to six people, and the dual tilt function is exactly what you miss when the sun is low. If sideways tilting isn't necessary, the Challenger T¹ 300x300 is the variant that only tilts backwards, with a 300 g polyester canopy.
Best with base included: Madison Monaco Flex III 300x300
With most cantilever parasols you buy the base separately. The Madison Monaco Flex III is an exception: according to Madison, the base is included. It also rotates 360 degrees and tilts sideways and backwards. The canopy is 100% polyester of 220 g/m² with PA coating, water-repellent and with UV 50+. Wind-vent openings at the top let air through. The frame is aluminium in anthracite, with eight ribs.

Monaco Flex III cantilever parasol 300x300 cm
Why: you get a complete set in one go and don't have to work out which base fits. That saves a separate purchase, and therefore also on your total budget. It is also available in grey and taupe.
Airiest canopy: Nesling Coolfit 300x300
The Nesling Coolfit doesn't have a regular parasol canopy, but a shade cloth made of woven HDPE (285 g/m²). According to the manufacturer, it blocks up to 95% of UV radiation. Thanks to its open structure, the fabric lets wind and water through. As a result, it feels airy underneath and catches less wind than a dense canopy. The parasol tilts backwards and rotates 360 degrees. The fabric comes with a five-year guarantee.

Please note: because the fabric lets water through, this isn't a parasol to shelter under during a downpour. If you want a round canopy, there is also a Coolfit Ø350 cm.
Best with LED lighting: Platinum Challenger T² Glow 300x300
The Challenger T² Glow is a Challenger T² with warm white LED lighting in the ribs. The light can shine upwards and downwards, and you operate it wirelessly. Otherwise it has everything of the T²: sideways and backwards tilting and a 360 degree rotating base. The canopy is 300 g polyester with up to 96% UV protection.

Challenger T² Glow cantilever parasol 300x300 cm
Please note: the parasol is delivered without a base. Platinum recommends a 90 kg parasol base. For more ideas on lighting your terrace, read where should you place a parasol?
Best for a small garden: Platinum Voyager T¹ 250x250
On a small terrace or in a city garden, a 300x300 cm canopy is quickly too much. The Voyager T¹ 250x250 is a compact cantilever parasol with the same basis as the larger models: it rotates 360 degrees and tilts backwards. The canopy is 220 g polyester with up to 96% UV protection. Platinum calls the canopy quality standard, compared with high for the Challenger.

Also good: if you have a narrow spot along the wall, have a look at the Voyager T¹ 300x200, a rectangular version. Both are delivered without a base; Platinum recommends 90 kg.
Best for a long table: Garden Impressions Hawaii Emperor 300x400
For a long dining table, a square canopy falls short at the ends. The Hawaii Emperor has a rectangular 300x400 cm canopy of 250 g/m² solution dyed polyester, which is colourfast and water-repellent. It has a telescopic function: you extend and retract it without moving chairs or crockery. The mast is 100x72 mm, the clearance height is 225 cm, and the canopy tilts sideways and backwards.

Alternatives: the Madison Malta 300x400 also tilts sideways and backwards and has a wind vent. The Platinum Challenger T¹ 400x300 has a premium 240 g Spuncrylic canopy and tilts backwards. The Hacienda from 4 Seasons Outdoor also has a 300 x 400 cm canopy; according to its specifications, it is tiltable and height-adjustable. You'll find more rectangular models in the rectangular parasols category.
Best for a large terrace: Platinum Icon Premium 350x350
According to Platinum, the Icon is designed for a large terrace. The canopy measures 350x350 cm and is made of 240 g Spuncrylic with up to 98% UV protection. Heavy-duty ribs, the mast and a wind stabiliser provide stability, and despite its size, it is easy to open. It rotates 360 degrees and tilts backwards.
Icon Premium cantilever parasol 350x350 cm
Please note: this is a large parasol with a heavy base. Platinum supplies it without a base and recommends the Modena parasol base of 150 kg. You'll find more large models in the large parasols category.
Best in strong wind: Garden Impressions Hawaii Big Pole II 350x350
Is your garden exposed, for example by the water or in a polder? Then you want a parasol that can handle a gust. The Hawaii Big Pole II has an extra-thick mast of 95x65 mm and, according to Garden Impressions, is wind-resistant up to Beaufort 4. The 350x350 cm canopy is 250 g/m² polyester with PA coating and tilts sideways and backwards. The parasol is height-adjustable, with a clearance height of 210 cm.

Hawaii Big Pole II cantilever parasol 350x350 cm
Also worth considering: the Platinum Beaufort premium 320x320 is designed as a wind-stable cantilever parasol, made extra sturdy by a scissor system and opened with a gas spring. It doesn't rotate or tilt. For more on what makes a parasol wind-resistant, read characteristics of a wind-resistant parasol and which parasol is best against the wind?
Wind-resistant doesn't mean windproof. Even a sturdy cantilever parasol needs to be folded away when it gets windier, and never leave it open when you go out.

The right base and cover
A cantilever parasol hangs out from the centre and therefore needs a heavy base. With most of the models above, you buy that separately. Always check which weight the manufacturer recommends and whether the base suits your parasol. These bases and anchors come up in this overview:
| Base | Weight | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| Madison granite | 90 kg | e.g. Madison Monaco |
| Hawaii granite | 90 kg | Hawaii Deluxe, Original, Lumen, S |
| Modena granite | 120 kg | e.g. Beaufort, Challenger, Voyager, Coolfit |
| Modena granite | 150 kg | e.g. Icon |
| Platinum ground-insert base | In the ground | e.g. Challenger, Hawaii |
| Hawaii ground anchor | In the ground | King Pole, Big Pole, Emperor |

A cover keeps the canopy clean when the parasol is closed. Choose one that suits the length and size of your parasol. The 292 cm AeroCover is, according to Platinum, suitable for the Icon, among others.

Which one suits you?
Measure the table or lounge set and the space around it for the mast and the base. If your table is long, go for a rectangular canopy such as the Hawaii Emperor.
A small garden: 250x250 cm. Most terraces: 300x300 cm. A large terrace: 350x350 cm. Not sure? Read which size parasol do I need?
If you also sit outside late in the afternoon, choose a model that tilts sideways and backwards. If you sit outside until after sunset, the Challenger T² Glow is an option.
If the base isn't included, count in the weight the manufacturer recommends and the price of the base. Or choose the Monaco Flex III, which comes with a base.

Common mistakes
Only looking at the canopy
A large canopy looks great, but the base determines whether the parasol stays put. According to Platinum, an Icon 350x350 needs a 150 kg base. Factor that in before you choose.
Choosing a base that doesn't fit
Not every base fits every cantilever parasol. The Hawaii granite base, for example, is made for the Hawaii Deluxe, Original, Lumen and S. Check with the base which parasols it is suitable for.
Assuming tilting always works sideways
Many cantilever parasols only tilt backwards. If you also want to block the sun from the side, choose a model that tilts sideways and backwards, such as the Challenger T² or the Monaco Flex III.
Tip: dry it before covering it
After a shower, let the canopy dry completely before you close the parasol or put the cover on. That way you prevent mildew spots. You can read more in cleaning and maintaining a garden parasol.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best cantilever parasol of 2026?
That depends on your terrace. As an all-rounder, we choose the Platinum Challenger T² premium 300x300: it rotates 360 degrees, tilts sideways and backwards, and has a premium 240 gsm Spuncrylic canopy. If you want the base included, take a look at the Madison Monaco Flex III. For a large terrace or strong winds, there are bigger and sturdier models.
Which cantilever parasol includes the base?
The Madison Monaco Flex III 300x300 cm comes with its base included. Most other cantilever parasols in this overview are sold without a base. Platinum states this explicitly for the Voyager, the Challenger T² Glow and the Icon, among others: these are supplied without a base.
Which cantilever parasol is best in wind?
According to the manufacturer, the Garden Impressions Hawaii Big Pole II is wind-resistant up to Beaufort 4 and has a 95x65 mm pole. The Platinum Beaufort is designed as a wind-stable cantilever parasol, but it does not rotate or tilt. A lightweight HDPE canopy, such as on the Nesling Coolfit, lets wind through. Always close any parasol when the wind picks up.
How heavy should the base of a cantilever parasol be?
Follow the manufacturer's advice. Platinum recommends 90 kg for the Voyager and the Challenger T² Glow, 120 kg for the Challenger T¹ 400x300 and the Beaufort, and the 150 kg Modena base for the Icon 350x350. If you don't want a base on your terrace, a ground-screw base or ground anchor is an option.
Is a cantilever parasol with LED lighting worth it?
If you often sit outside after sunset, yes. The Platinum Challenger T² Glow has warm white LED lighting in the ribs that can shine upwards and downwards, and it is operated wirelessly.
Which parasol size is the most popular?
The 300x300 cm size appears far more often in this comparison than any other and fits above most lounge sets and tables for four to six people. For a small garden, 250x250 cm is an option; for a long table, a rectangular canopy of 300x400 or 400x300 cm; and for a large terrace, 350x350 cm.
